Valparaíso was founded in the 16th century as a small settlement that grew rapidly in the beginning of the 18th century when the international trade was expanding. Unfortunately some of the magnificent buildings of these times are currently marked by dilapidation and deserted.

Because of its historical center and the diversity of architecture, and uniqueness of the 44 hills, Valparaíso was declared a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO. Every year hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over the world visit this fabulous city.
